RPSG Group has bought the Lucknow IPL team for a whooping INR 7,090 crores, making it the most expensive team in the IPL history. Sanjeev Goenka owned RPSG also initiated the ‘Naam Banao, Naam Kamao’ to name the Lucknow IPL Team Name.
There were a lot of speculations as to what name would be given to the team, a lot of fans were excited that they would be given the opportunity to name the team but were left disappointed after the owners decided to name the Lucknow IPL Team as Lucknow Super Giants.
Disappointment from the Fans
The fans were left disappointed since the team name is same as the Pune franchise ‘Rising Pune Super Giants’ which was also owned by the same owner i.e the RPSG group.
As the news broke out on social media, fans trolled the social media pages heavily.
Here are some screenshots from the trolling from the IG Handle of the Lucknow IPL Team –

It is understood that owner Sanjeev Goenka likes to keep the abbreviation ‘SG’ in every team he owns, whether it was Pune or Lucknow. The fans were disappointed and asked if they had to keep the same name then why was the ‘Naam Banao, Naaam Kamao’ initiative taken on the first place.
One of the users on the Instagram post thinks ‘it was a mere stunt to get the personal information’ of all the fans in the name of this campaign. When the fans had to suggest the name for the Lucknow IPL team, they had to sign in and fill in their names, email ID and other information.
The team has surely started off with a lot of support but after this stunt maybe the team has already lost some of the fans and are questioning whether the team owners are genuine with the fans or not.
