Lenskart, founded in 2010, is a leading D2C brand that deals in eyewear. Its products range from prescription glasses to sunglasses to lenses along with eye check-up services.
Its founders Peyush Bansal, Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi aimed to create a brand that added value to customers’ lives and provides affordable eyecare with high quality.
It started as an online platform but in 2012, it expanded by opening the first offline store located in Delhi. Currently, it has more than 2000 stores in India, a website and an app.

Lenskart revolutionised the industry by leveraging technology. It became a unicorn in December 2019. The company reported a revenue of Rs. 3,788 crores in FY 23 and a profit of Rs 260 crore.
It is a socially conscious company and adjusts its focus on impacting society for the good.
Lenskart Initiatives
- Better Sight – Lenskart and Smile Foundation collaborated for the company’s #BetterSight initiative. Under this, a series of eye check-up camps were conducted for underprivileged women and children. It aimed to create awareness and educate them about proper vision care. Held in December 2017 with a participation of over 150 women and children. It aims to provide them with free screening for years to come.
- Lenskart Vision Fund – It is an initiative for the company to invest in startups. Through this, it will invest $2 million dollars in each selected start-up and provide it access to the market via its online platforms and offline retail stores, across India, Singapore, the USA and West Asia. It started in June 2021 with the motive behind this is to support new businesses and provide resources to the potential ones to grow.
- ONE for ONE– According to the company, about 1/3rd of the population require vision correction. For every pair of glasses sold by the company, they donate one to someone in need. This started in 2012. Along with this, Lenskart collaborated with the Swades Foundation (which works for rural empowerment) to donate glasses in Raigad, Maharashtra.
Other Major Initiatives
- EYE for EYE– This campaign gives a platform and voice to transgender people. It began when on 14 April 2014, the Supreme Court of India’s landmark judgement recognised transgender people as a third gender. To pay their respect the third gender pledged their eyes exactly a year later. Lenskart handed 16,000 pledges to the Eye Bank Association of India and promised 2 lakh more.
- Covid relief helpline– This helpline began in 2021 by the Lenskart Foundation which only operated on WhatsApp chat. Its goal was to help the ones in need by sending a message on the helpline number and asking for assistance.
Lenskart’s vision has been clear since 2010 and is on a mission to provide a clear vision to the entire country. The company has set up a non-profit organization called Lenskart Foundation which believes in a 6/6 vision for everyone. They aim to eradicate vision problems from every corner of the country and move towards progressive as well as envisioned India.
